What is a Search Engine?

What is Search Engine (SE):

The web search engine is a software system designed to search for information on the worldwide web (WWW).

Process of Search Engine:

  • Crawling: 

Here search engine bot visits pages and finds out what is published on www.

  • Indexing: 

Once crawling is done, the copy of that page is made and referred to as Index. Then it is stored in giant data centers for later retrieval

  • User Query:

A user like you or me manually enters a query in a search engine box

  • Matching Query: 

Then this query is matched with the pages stored in data centers.

  • Relevancy:
A relevant and exact match is found by algorithms.



  • Retrieving Results:

The result is displayed on search engine result pages (SERPs)

"Search Engine is a program" who gives any result through match query we are searching. The terms are often used to specifically describe systems like Google Bing and Yandex. Search Engines are the systems designed to search for information on the World Wide Web.
